Fiddle

  1. The Festival Board recommends that all entrants be placed in a maximum of TWO SOLO class and in an unlimited number of group classes. All participants will be considered for Awards. The number of awards given will depend on the amount of money in the award fund.
  2. Players will announce their selections from the stage before performing.
  3. Please email info.nifpa@gmail.com on if requesting adjudication only (option online to be added for 2018 registration).
  4. Soloists are required to be accompanied by piano or guitar.
  5. The Festival Board trusts the integrity of the performers to enter at an ability level at which they are currently working. These are classified as Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced or Accomplished.

 


SOLO CLASSES

Beginner –“Little Britches” – 4 minutes max
Old Time – two selections – waltz, jig or reel
Celtic – two selections – waltz, jig or reel
Performer’s Choice – one or two tunes

Novice – 4 minutes max.
Old Time – two selections – waltz, jig or reel
Celtic selection –two selections – waltz, jig or reel
Performer’s Choice – two tunes

Youth Intermediate – 5 minutes max.
Old Time Medley – waltz, jig and reel
Celtic Medley – waltz, jig and reel
Performer’s Choice and/or own composition 2 tunes

Youth Advanced – 5 minutes max.
Old Time Medley – waltz, jig and reel
Celtic Medley – waltz, jig and reel
Performer’s Choice and/or own composition 2 tunes

Accomplished – 5 minutes max.
Old Time Medley – waltz, jig and reel
Celtic Medley – waltz, jig and reel
Performer’s Choice and/or own composition 2 tunes

Adult – 5 minutes max.
Beginners – Performer’s Choice
Novice – Performer’s Choice
Intermediate – Performer’s Choice


GROUP CLASSES

Duets/groups- entrants’ choice of style – 10 minutes max

Novice – medley of 2-3 tunes
Youth Intermediate – medley of 3 tunes
Youth Advanced – medley of 3 tunes
Accomplished – medley of 3 tunes
Open – mixed ages and ability – medley of 3-4 tunes

Notes Regarding OWN COMPOSITION

Each entry must be composed by, written out or computer-generated by the entrant. Entries must be neat and legible in ink, computer print, or photocopy. The measure number starting each line, tempo and dynamic markings and other appropriate details should be included.

A copy of the composition MUST be in the hands of the Fiddle Chairperson. It is advisable to retain your original copy of the submitted work.
